Saffiano leather

A testament to ingenuity, a bridge between tradition and modernity, and a legacy woven into the fabric of Italian fashion.

Saffiano leather traces its roots to the heart of Italy, where innovation and tradition intertwine. In the early 20th century, the visionary Mario Prada, founder of the renowned fashion house, sought a distinctive leather that would elevate his designs. Prada’s quest led to the creation of Saffiano leather, a material that would forever leave its mark on luxury accessories. Mario Prada patented this unique leather optic, and it quickly became synonymous with Prada’s iconic bags. The name “Saffiano” itself hints at its origin: it pays homage to the fine cross-hatched texture reminiscent of woven fabric. Saffiano leather owes its distinctive appearance to a meticulous embossing process during tanning. Heat and pressing machines create the signature cross-hatched pattern, resulting in a luxurious yet durable surface. The ridged texture not only adds visual appeal but also enhances the leather’s resistance to scratches and wear.

Sauvage leather

The leather embraced by the fashion houses for its distinctive aesthetic and quality

Sauvage leather derives its name from the French word meaning “wild” or “natural”. This rugged and untamed leather is known for its textured surface and natural variations in colour, giving it a rustic and vintage look. The production process begins with the careful selection of high-quality hides sourced from various animals, including cattle, sheep, and goats. These diverse hides contribute to the unique textures and patterns found in Sauvage leather. The intentional preservation of natural imperfections and irregularities enhances its authentic appeal. One of its defining features is the unique colouring technique: a combination of different pigments and finishes creates a multidimensional effect. The colours are often applied gradually and unevenly, resulting in a rich and textured appearance. Sauvage leather is prized for its durability and strength, making it an excellent choice for various textile applications, including footwear, bags, belts, and upholstery.
